Pole setting, replacement and line-structure support backed by dedicated powerline, civil and hydrovac equipment.

Complete Pole Installation Capability

Utility pole installation is a core field operation that depends on far more than digging a hole and setting a structure. Safe execution requires utility locates, excavation planning, equipment selection, rigging, traffic control, environmental awareness, overhead hazard management, structure handling and coordination with the electrical work occurring on the pole.

Valhalla Power and Civil provides pole installation and replacement services for electric utilities, municipalities, industrial sites, mines, telecommunications infrastructure, private power systems and other owners. Our fleet includes digger derricks, bucket trucks, line trucks, crane/boom trucks, excavators, mini excavators, hydrovac trucks, tracked/off-road equipment, service trucks and crew trucks, allowing the work method to be selected for the actual site conditions.

New Poles & Line Extensions

For new distribution or private-power construction, Valhalla can support route preparation, pole-hole excavation, pole setting, framing, hardware installation, conductor construction and associated civil work. Digger derricks provide an efficient solution in accessible terrain, while excavators, hydrovac equipment or alternative methods can be used where soils, congestion or existing underground utilities require a different approach.

Line extensions may also require access construction, traffic management, material staging, transformer installations and final restoration. By coordinating these activities under one contractor, Valhalla can keep the structure-installation sequence aligned with the overall electrical schedule.

Pole Change-Outs & Replacements

Existing poles may require replacement because of age, decay, vehicle impact, fire, storm damage, loading changes, system upgrades or road and development work. Pole change-outs can be straightforward or highly complex depending on the number of energized circuits, communications attachments, transformers, equipment, adjacent utilities and traffic conditions.

Valhalla’s distribution crews can support planned pole replacements and emergency change-outs, including energized/live-line work and rubber-glove work up to 25 kV where permitted by the approved work plan. Civil and hydrovac resources can expose underground conflicts, excavate around existing structures and support restoration after the new pole is installed.

Hydrovac & Congested Utility Corridors

Pole holes are frequently located in corridors containing gas, telecommunications, water, sewer and electrical infrastructure. Mechanical excavation may not be appropriate until buried services are positively located and exposed. Valhalla’s in-house hydrovac capability allows crews to daylight utilities and excavate in congested areas with a method that can reduce the risk of damaging buried infrastructure when properly applied.

Because hydrovac, pole-setting and linework crews can be scheduled within the same organization, the project team can respond more efficiently when actual underground conditions differ from records or drawings. This is particularly useful in urban rebuilds, roadway projects, service upgrades and brownfield industrial sites.

Remote & Difficult Access

Western Canadian utility work often occurs beyond paved-road access. Valhalla’s tracked and off-road equipment capability supports work in challenging terrain, while crane/boom trucks, excavators and specialized line equipment provide options for structure handling and installation. Access planning is integrated with environmental requirements, ground conditions, seasonal restrictions and the owner’s construction plan.

Remote pole work can also require water, civil support, environmental controls and temporary traffic or access management. Valhalla’s multi-discipline model is designed to reduce the number of separate mobilizations required to complete these tasks.

From Excavation to Restoration

Valhalla’s pole-installation service can extend beyond the structure itself. Depending on the project, the company can provide utility daylighting, excavation, backfill and compaction, concrete, traffic control, contaminated-material handling, surface restoration and associated powerline work.

This integrated scope gives utility and infrastructure clients one point of accountability for a workfront that might otherwise require several subcontractors. Whether the assignment is a single private service pole, a distribution rebuild, a storm-damaged structure or a large line-construction program, Valhalla can assemble the equipment and disciplines required to complete the work safely and efficiently.
