Existing poles may require replacement because of age, decay, vehicle impact, fire, storm damage, loading changes, system upgrades or road and development work. Pole change-outs can be straightforward or highly complex depending on the number of energized circuits, communications attachments, transformers, equipment, adjacent utilities and traffic conditions.

Valhalla’s distribution crews can support planned pole replacements and emergency change-outs, including energized/live-line work and rubber-glove work up to 25 kV where permitted by the approved work plan. Pole holes are frequently located in corridors containing gas, telecommunications, water, sewer and electrical infrastructure. Mechanical excavation may not be appropriate until buried services are positively located and exposed. Valhalla’s in-house hydrovac capability allows crews to daylight utilities and excavate in congested areas with a method that can reduce the risk of damaging buried infrastructure when properly applied.
